We have an upcoming camping trip for a local youth non-profit club in June, and I am excited to bring this along! I can’t bring a big air mattress, but the Southern Ranger Camping Sleeping Pad is just the right size to help keep things a little more comfortable when I sleep.
As you can see, the Southern Ranger Camping Sleeping Pad is so portable, it can easily fit in a backpack or luggage bag. Or you can just toss it in the trunk, and it doesn’t take much space. I love how compact it is! It’s literally the size of a small football!
To be honest with you, I had doubts at first when I initially unrolled this thing. It’s got some good length, and the first thought I had was: “How am I gonna be able to blow all the air I need to fill up this thing?
Well guess what? It only took me about 20 big breaths to fill up this camping pad to capacity! I thought I’d be blowing on the tube forever, considering how long it was! The air compartments filled up quicker than I thought.
Here’s a view from another angle…
Considering how easy it was to inflate and deflate this camping pad, I feel more at ease about bringing the Southern Ranger Camping Sleeping Pad to camp with us.
To test it out, I laid it on the hard tile floor. It help up pretty good and does a decent job keeping you comfortable. It’s not a mattress of course, but this feels much better than sleeping on the hard ground in camp with just a sleeping bag. This camping pad adds some nice cushion.
I am about 5′-7″ in height, and this was just the perfect length for me once the air filled up the compartments. At about 150 lbs, I thought I would get some air leak, but surprisingly didn’t get any! I’m really impressed at the air valve design because the more you put pressure, the tighter the seal gets, which prevents deflation very well. It’s hard to describe, but it’s got some two-way system going. You open the valve one way to inflate, and it opens in a different kind of way to deflate.
By the way, I’ve learned that the best way to fold this back in to fit in it’s original carry case and small size is to fold it in half twice and then rolling it like you would a tent.
