I love gadgets that have multiple purposes and are very portable! This Emergency Car Power Kit With Battery Booster from Hop & Fly is no exception.

The Emergency Car Power Kit With Battery Booster by Hop & Fly is a flashlight, a power charging station, and a car battery jump starter all at the same time! I’m sure you’ll understand the benefits of having an all-in-one gadget such as this. Instead of packing 3 separate things for a trip, I have everything I need in one package. That’s a thumbs up in my book!

I have owned one of those $90-something battery boosters in the past, and they are a pain to carry. They are big, bulky, and heavy. Compare that to this Hop & Fly BSW1501 Portable Emergency Kit which is only the size of a large flashlight.

The package comes with everything you need, including the attachments and necessary cables. To jump start a battery, it comes with a cable kit with the battery clamps to connect to the positive and negative terminals on the battery.

According to the sales material, this device has 400 amps of cranking power. The batteries in our vehicles are still okay, so this was not tested in our cars.

However, I have a riding lawn mower that needs a new battery (I’ve just been lazy to get a new one and want to save money), so I’ve been jump starting with each use. I have a 12-volt battery that I keep at home for jumpstarting small engines; it’s pretty heavy so I carry it with a dolly and drag along to my shed in the backyard where the riding mower is. You can imagine how much of a hassle to do that each time! But now that I have the Hop & Fly BSW1501 Portable Emergency Kit, it’s made my life so much easier! The unit is so portable, it’s such a relief.

First, connect the positive and negative clamps to the battery that needs jump-starting. Due to the way it’s made, it doesn’t matter which one goes first — but that’s my opinion. Just make sure the cable is not connected to the Hop & Fly power source yet (the one that looks like a large flashlight) when you’re putting the clamps on.

Next, plugin the jump-start cord to the car adapter port on the Hop & Fly power unit. The port is located in the bottom of the unit. There is a protected compartment that you can open. It will look like this:

The car adapter port is the area in blue in the photo above. This is where you are going to plugin the cable with the battery clamps. There is no way you can connect this the wrong way because it will only fit a certain way, as you can see by the shape of the port — which I think is a good protective feature that they added. However, still make sure the unit is not powered ON yet when you connect the cord — just so you can make sure everything is connected properly, especially the terminals on the battery.

When everything is set, turn the power on to the unit by pressing the power button and checking that you’re in the right voltage setting. One neat thing about this device is that it has a voltage indicator light, so you know if you’re working under 12V, 16V, or 19V. Here’s a photo for your reference. The voltage indicator lights are located next to the power button, as you can see.

My riding mower, which does not start without jump-starting the battery, cranked to life and started right up by the second turn on the key. I was glad to know that it works! Let me tell you that from now on, I’m going to continue jump-starting with the Hop & Fly BSW1501 Emergency Car Power Kit With Battery Booster until the riding mower battery can no longer take any charge and I have to buy a new one. LOL.

UPDATE 1/19/16: I’ve used the booster multiple times already to crank up my riding mower and it hasn’t failed me yet! I used it yesterday to start up a small ATV that wouldn’t start on its own, and had good results. I highly recommend this booster. I feel much safer using this than the regular jumper cables.

The LED flashlight is also a great feature and puts out a strong, bright, white light. It has 3 light modes that you can choose from, depending on how many times you press the power button. The instructions on how to set the lights are outlined in the included manual. The large LED in the middle shown in the photo below is what powers the main light.

There is also an emergency light feature that beams out a RED light. In the photo above, it is the smaller LEDs surrounding the large one that mainly beams out the red emergency lights. The photo below is just to give you an idea of the red emergency lights, if you ever require this feature:

As I have mentioned previously, the power button is located on the bottom close to where the indicator lights are. Just note, however, that there is an “On/Off” switch in a hidden compartment in the bottom. It’s in the same place where the car adapter port is located. Make sure you slide the switch over to the on/off position or the device will not work. To save battery juice, slide the switch to the off position. The direction to slide the switch to for ON or OFF is marked on the compartment cover.

There is a DC-output port on the side of the Hop & Fly unit to power up your electronic devices. It is labeled, so you won’t miss this. The labeling is very important because there is also a DC-input port on the other side to re-charge the unit.

As far as charging your small electronic devices, the Emergency Car Power Kit With Battery Booster by Hop & Fly should be able to handle all of that. It’s got a 10,000 mAH battery bank which is a capacity big enough to charge many small electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, GPS devices, and other gadgets that can be charged via USB. It’s the largest capacity power bank that I’ve owned to date!

All the necessary charging cables are included. There is a USB cord with a multiple head to fit various common electronic devices. You might be familiar with some of the following ends shown in the photo above.
