The light unit seen below is from the SB Series of Extreme Performance LED bike lights from Stupidbright. Featured here is specifically their SB1600 model. I like how simplistic the model name is derived — SB for Stupidbright, and 1600 for the amount of lumens generated by the LED lights.

The SB1600 package contains a complete kit with the following items:
– LED light unit
– battery pack (with straps)
– power cord
– velcro straps for helmets, if needed
– 2 straps to secure the light (you only need one, but there’s a difference in length depending on your needs)

The light unit for the SB1600 is very compact, making it portable and convenient for packing and assembling. In fact, it looks like just the “head” part of a regular flashlight! Supposedly, this is the smallest of the SB series — but this small thing doesn’t lack the necessary light power to pierce the darkness. In fact, the first thing I’d probably mention about the SB1600 is its powerful brightness output of 1600 lumens. If you don’t know it, that’s super strong! I have a 200-lumen LED flashlight that already gets compliments for its brightness whenever I use it — and the SB1600 is already 8 times more powerful than that. It sure can turn heads!

I’ve taken this photo to give you an idea of the LED light source. There are 4 powerful LED lights, as you can see, and the reflectors maximize the illuminating power…

The battery pack is marked to hold about 8800mAH of power. This bigger capacity allows the light to last longer than other bike lights I’ve seen. Some of the ones I’ve had in the past uses AA batteries only. To be able to use it, connect the main light unit to the battery pack as shown…

The power button is located on the back of the light unit. Pressing the button turns the light on (once connected to the battery pack) and allows for activation of various light settings: high, low, strobe, etc…

The battery pack is rechargeable, which is always a handy feature to have. I don’t have to buy new batteries when I run out of power, like my other bike lights. I don’t know how long the battery pack can hold a charge, but I hope it can last long. To recharge the battery, just connect to the same port that you used to connect when you plugged in the light unit:

Securing the LED light to the bike handle is easy. There are no special tools or hardware needed, such as screws or a screw driver. It comes with 2 flexible straps that you can use, each one is a different length depending on your needs. They should fit most handle bars.

Pick the appropriate size strap and loop it around the bar to the next “hook” to secure the light…

For this set, I have decided to use this on my do-it-yourself solar panel generator project. I connected the light to the handle bar of the dolly that holds the generator and secured the battery pack down below. I used the longer strap since the dolly’s handle bars are thicker than my bike:

It works great for my solar generator project, but I know I can always use this on bike trips in the evening also. Because the kit is not screwed on, transferring for various uses will not be an issue.

I almost forgot to mention that it has an included accessory for helmet mount — which, to me, is an added bonus. Having that option makes this a 2-in-1 deal to me. I have no use for that at the moment, but I know it will come in handy later.

The SB1600 is advertised as waterproof, but I always advice anyone — no matter what product — not to immerse fully on water — unless it is specifically made for underwater use. The SB1600 should be able to handle a rainy weather, but that’s no excuse to be careless about it. Always wipe off when it gets wet.
