Our last child — our 23-month old — has been the most active and curious one out of all our children. She opens everything that she can open at home, eats anything that looks edible, and plays with everything no matter what… no holds barred! She’s the reason we’ve had to secure (or attempt to) everything we think she can get her hands on. I’m glad to have the CareMe set of child safety locks to help us in this regard. Now I feel more at ease.
There are 2 types of CareMe child safety products that are available: the CareMe Magnetic Locks set and the CareMe Safety Locks for Baby set. If you ask me, I would actually recommend having BOTH of them, rather than picking one over the other. They both have their uses and advantages, but they’re a good compliment to each other if purchased together.
They are both very easy to use — and I mean VERY EASY if you (or your husband) is not much of a handyman. There are instructions posted on the back of the package labeling that are easy to follow. In fact, you can probably figure it out like me just by looking at all the included parts. As far as advantages are concerned: First of all, there are no holes to drill, screws to drive in, or other extra tools needed. It’s very convenient to use, if you ask me! They both use those powerful 3M adhesives — and they really do stick well! In fact, one of my suggestions while applying the product is that don’t push them in too much yet when you’re still trying to position them or you’ll have a lot of fun trying to pull them out and attempting to move. They’re that strong!
The CareMe Safety Locks for Baby package comes with 6 complete pieces, a close-up of each pair is shown above. To secure cabinet doors, just align them properly then stick them in and you’re set.
To open, just slide over the blue part to the right to disengage the lock and pull out the tab. It’s that easy! I’ve used these to secure cabinets and drawers alike.
The CareMe Magnetic Safety Locks package shown below comes with 4 locks. The circular “knob” that you see below is very important — because that’s what you’ll need to disengage the magnetic locks. Make sure you don’t lose that and you keep it OUTSIDE of the cabinet you are securing! (You’ll know what I mean once you see how this works)
Here is a closeup of a pair that makes a complete locking mechanism, for your reference. One part that looks like a car spoiler catches the “hook” of the other component to secure the cabinet when someone attempts to open it.
When you first pull them out of the package, this “hook” is hidden away. Make sure you slide over to the opposite side the part that I have shown below to let this “hook” stick out.
Here it is securing my medicine cabinet. My little one has learned to climb up and open our medication cabinet — but now she’ll get a good surprise… she can’t! (You may notice 2 holes on the right side of the cabinet. That’s from an old lock that required screws. I still have to remove 2 more from the other side. Aargh! My wife hated that option. But she’s happy with this CareMe option instead).
As I’ve mentioned earlier, I’d recommend buying them together because they complement each other well. However, if I was forced to pick a set, I’ll pick the magnetic safety locks. The reason is that everything is hidden, so no one will ever know that the drawers or cabinets are protected. When you want to open a cabinet, just place the magnetic head in front of the general area where the lock was set (from the inside) and you’ll hear a click letting you know that the lock has been released and you can pull open concurrently. While installing the magnetic locks, I realized that it can also be used sideways, which just opened up more possible areas for us to secure! I’m happy about that.
Here it is facing a different direction. Works up, down, and sideways as I’ve mentioned, which is great!
Overall, I’m very satisfied with both child safety lock options from CareMe. I now feel more at ease knowing that the potential for accidents and danger have dramatically decreased due to the use of these safety locks.
