I love this HandyMate Digital Tape Measure and I’ve been using it more frequently now than my older measuring tapes since receiving it in the mail.
One of the reasons I like it is because it helps me save time — due to the digital readout of the measurement. It’s pretty much a lazy man’s way to save time while doing your home projects! All I need to do is look at the reading on the LCD screen and I don’t have to think about all the lines on the tape; the screen lets me know quickly what the measurement is.
A great feature too is that you can switch and convert from one unit of measurement to another with a press of one of the buttons, which is clearly marked. There are times when I need to switch between feet, centimeters, or inches depending on the project at hand, and this one allows me to do so easily.
Another useful feature is the ability to change the orientation of the screen readout. The first button that is marked “X” to “M” is what you press to change orientations. It’s pretty handy, because sometimes I need to change positions while holding the measuring tape.
IMPORTANT: One thing to note though is that the digital measurement is from end to end. In other words, the reading starts from the tip all the way to the edge of the tape measure just where the tape goes inside the device. I understand that there are some projects where doing so might not be feasible (like when you need to extend the tape longer than what you are actually wanting to measure) — in which case, that’s when I just switch to my standard measuring tape.
By the way, I didn’t remember seeing any instruction on batteries… but yes, the digital tape measure is battery powered. There is a little red “notch” on the side that you will notice. This is where the battery compartment is located.
Just pull that out with your finger nails (that’s what I did). This HandyMate digital tape measure requires a CR2032e battery, as you can see in the photo.
Overall, I’d recommend this HandyMate Digital Tape Measure. It’s battery operated, so changing that will be the inconvenience factor; but with all the convenience it gives me, I’m willing to take the trade off.
By the way, I forgot to mention: This will still work even without the digital reading. Just don’t turn the power on and it will just be a regular tape measure! I found that out by accident! LOL
