Car chargers are always good to have when travelling or when you are always on the go! When I choose car chargers, I always go for portability and size. Gone were the days of big bulky chargers. Car chargers are getting smaller in size, as you may have noticed too, and the CHOETECH C0046 Dual USB Car Charger pictured below is no different:

I put the charger in my hands just so that you can get a general idea of how “big” this thing is. I’d say that’s about 2 inches long, more or less. It’s easier to put on your pocket when moving from one vehicle to another.

When you unpack the box, you should receive the following items:

– charger unit
– white USB cord
– user manual
– satisfaction card

There are 2 available ports on this charger, so you can charge 2 devices simultaneously. The package only comes with one USB cord, so you’ll have to get another one to avail the 2 available ports.

When I first plugged in this unit, I was surprised with the smell of burning, so I unplugged it immediately after that to avoid any further damage to the device, or even avoid potential damage to my vehicle (such as a fire!). I also noticed that the charger unit felt hot after I unplugged it. I tried contacting the manufacturer directly a couple of times, but they must not be receiving my correspondence. The good news is that if you purchase this via Amazon, you can utilize their services to either get a refund or a replacement item. There is also an 18-month warranty posted on the sales page.

For the purposes of this testing, I decided to wait at least a week or so before trying the charger again, instead of pursuing a replacement. Surprisingly, the charger started working properly. There was no smell of burning, and the charger did not get hot as in my previous testing. I have no explanation for this whatsoever… but I’ve been using the charger since without any problems. I don’t know what happened the first time, but I sure do hope this will last me for some time. I believe most chargers have a fuse inside — which is probably what spared me from things getting worse.

I’ll actually give this a thumbs up… and that’s because it worked again, even after the initial testing experience. I will update this post if it ever does fail me within a reasonable amount of time.
