If you are a parent of a pre-school or elementary school-aged children, then the StartWrite 6.0 software is a must-have tool to have installed in your computer. Teachers can benefit from this too when they are planning out their curriculum.

Forget buying paper in the store. With the StartWrite 6.0 software, you can print standard ruled paper on demand. One of the great things I love about the software is that it allows you to teach your young children how to write the alphabet. It gives you several options of teaching how to write letters such as:

• connecting the dots to make each letter of the alphabet
• tracing the outline of letters
• practice writing in a straight line
• practice writing within the lines
• you can also just type solid letters if you just want to show each letter of the alphabet and common words with those letters within their learning level
• – etc

One of the neat things is that the software comes pre-loaded with clipart photos. So if you’re teaching a child a word, you can type in the word and then include a picture so they can get the association. Besides that, you can also include clipart just to make the page fun and creative — perhaps give your child the opportunity to color.

Now I heard from a substitute teacher once that students will no longer be taught how to write cursive in the future (I did not confirm this, and I’m not sure if some school districts have already implemented such atrocity). If you want to give your child that advantage, this software allows for cursive fonts too. Isn’t that neat?

Installation was a breeze. I installed this on a Windows 7 computer system without a problem. The good news is that you can try the software first for free, which is a great way to learn how the software works and see if this will be a great compliment to your teaching. After trial, just register the product and you’re ready to proceed without software limitations. As with any new software, it will take some learning and practice before you get used to all the functions available. It’s going to get easier after some time. The software menus are pretty much self-explanatory.

Whether you are a teacher, a tutor, a teacher’s aid, a babysitter, a nanny, or a stay-at-home mom/dad, I believe that you will find the StartWrite 6.0 useful for teaching children to write their letters.
