Continued exposure to extreme noises can damage your hearing. A good way to provide some additional protection is by using ear muffs such as the FSL gunblock or the FSL Decimate. Both are effective in defending your ears, in my opinion.

They are both compact in size, especially in their folded position. The first photo shows the FSL Gunblock and below it is the FSL decimate.

I have seen competitors’ version, but they are not “foldable” (if that’s even a word) like these. In the folded position, these Future Sound Lab models are only a little bigger than the ear pieces themselves. This compact, folding feature allows for easy storage — as they won’t occupy a bigger space compared to their non-folding competitor’s version, and you don’t have to worry about possibly breaking the headbands when you stuff them in a bag of belongings. (I have broken some headphones that way). In a way, the ‘foldable’ headband feature provides a sort of a protective wrap that cradles the ear pieces. It will make more sense as you look at the photos.

They both are adjustable too. Part of the headband is hidden in the folded position, but can be pulled and extended outward when in use and can be adjusted accordingly. The metal wire loop (for lack of a better word) comes out of the plastic component that attaches to the ear muffs.

The headband portion for each unit are both padded well. However, I particularly like the way the FSL Decimate’s headband section is padded, as you can see here. Perhaps it is because it reminds me of chocolate bars and I’m craving them right now. LOL.

As far as the ear pieces are concerned, both of the ear muffs are fully padded to give you the ultimate sound barrier. A closeup of the earpieces from both models are shown below. Notice the thick padding and foam material:

I’m quite happy with the results for either one. Both Future Sound Lab models seem to provide a great deal of sound barrier and each earpiece gives you a tight seal. Just by putting any of them on, I noticed a big reduction in the noise level of the environment already. I can’t really complain. Any of these will be useful for me, as I am a fan of DIY home improvement projects and can use this for noisy machinery work. If you’re into hunting or like to visit the shooting range frequently, the Future Sound Lab Gunblock model and the Future Sound Lab Decimate model will work just fine.
