I got this Dicani Lawn Aerator Shoes to see what difference aeration can do to the grass in our yard. From what I’ve been reading, aeration allows for penetration of water, air, and nutrients to the grass roots — resulting in a healthier lawn. The Dicani Aerator shoes will hopefully get me there by spring time.

What makes this different from other options is that you can strap this aerator on your shoes, with the provided velcro straps. Let me warn you though that assembly will be required when you first get this package in the mail. It doesn’t come ready to be strapped unto your shoes, as I originally thought. My guess is that it would be inappropriate to send this in a box completely assembled because the spikes can be a hazard if the packaging was to be punctured. It will be a safety issue during transit and may be questioned as a weapon. Imagine seeing a spiked object in a scanner? However, you should not worry; assembly is simple and you should be done in no time.

The package consists of 2 “platforms” or base for the shoes, velcro straps, and the “spike” bolts with nuts included. There are 13 of the 2-inch spikes, which are made of hardened steel. By the way, be careful when assembling this product so you don’t hurt yourself. As a warning, you also need to put this away immediately when not in use, particularly when you have small children. The spikes are sharp and can hurt anybody that falls into or steps on it accidentally.

If you know how to put nuts and bolts together, then this shouldn’t be an issue. Just insert the spiked bolt in each hole and secure with the nut. Most of the bolts went through the holes without resistance, but there were a couple of holes where I really needed to push and twist the bolts through due to residual material that is left during the molding process. By the way, the package also includes the hardware tool to tighten the nuts if necessary (I used my fingers mostly to twist and tighten).

If you like multi-tasking like me to get the job done, then perhaps consider strapping on this pair of Dicani Lawn Aerator Shoes while pushing your lawnmower and cutting the grass. Get 2 things accomplished at one time!

Now, doing that might slow you down the first several uses, but once you get comfortable with it, you can be walking and mowing at the same time with decent speed. It will feel awkward at first, and you might stumble or get stuck a couple of times (depending on the moisture in the ground). In the height of summer, it might even be hard to spike your way through the ground. Actually, I wouldn’t recommended you doing this in the height of summer when the ground is really hard, compacted, and dry. But given the right conditions (such as the day after a rain or watering the grass), strapping on these pair of Dicani lawn aerator shoes while mowing the lawn is a timesaver for sure. The good news is, you can accomplish multiple things at one go for the benefit of your yard.
