Have you ever opened your clothes washer door and this musty smell suddenly hit your nose? Well it’s happened to me, and I’ve even tried using baking soda to help with this. The Smelly Washer Cleaner that I received below appears to be a promising solution.
The Smelly Washer Cleaner is in granule form. They look like salt crystals, really. I have taken a photo to give you a better idea:
WARNING: When you have small kids at home, make sure to put this in a secure area! It looks like one of those sugar granule treats that you can mix with cold water for a refreshing drink, and the container looks like one of those drink or supplement containers. Learn from my mistake! Our little one got curious when I inadvertently left this bottle on the floor, and I caught her with some granules in her hands and lips. I don’t know how much she actually ingested, but she gave that “This tastes horrible!” look on her face right when I caught her. I stayed with her all day to monitor for any adverse effects, and much to my relief, she was okay! The Smelly Washer Cleaner claims to be an all-natural cleaner, so maybe that’s what saved the day! Although the label states that it’s an all-natural cleaner, there’s no specific list of its formulation/ingredients. I wish it did for my own peace of mind.
The directions for use are included in the bottle label. It’s easy to follow, as shown below:
The first time I tried this on our Whirlpool clothes washer was with cold water and a capful, and that setting did not get good results. The second time I tried was on hot setting but the effect was minimal. I finally learned that I was doing it WRONG. I’ve noticed that our particular machine puts water in and then sucks it back out before starting any cycle. So in essence, I drained out most of the cleaner in the beginning before I even soaked the machine with it. When you use the Smelly Washer Cleaner, make sure to add this in the cleaning cycle and on a hot water setting. Better yet, if your machine has a “Pre-Soak” option, then use that and soak the machine in hot water with the Smelly Washer Cleaner before completing the rest of the cleaning cycle. If your machine allows you to set the timing for the Pre-Soak, then give it a good soak! This will give you the best outcome. I haven’t tried it yet, but I saw a “Sanitize” option on our washing machine. Perhaps using this option along with the Smelly Washer Cleaner will give the most significant results. I’ll keep you posted when that happens…
