I’ve been waiting for a pH meter to test our water filtration and ionizer system that we’ve purchased a couple of months ago. My brother bought something that was more complicated and expensive, and I really just needed a simple and cheaper system for water testing purposes. The Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter was exactly what I was looking for.
It comes with its own case, which is really useful when storing the pH meter after use.
First of all, the water filter and ionizer system that we bought came with a few pH strips and a small bottle of solution for testing, but it just got too messy dealing with them and looking through a chart for color matches to indicate the closest pH level. I preferred to have something that was quick and allowed for digital readouts of the actual PH reading. This is where the Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter came in handy.
The HealthyWiser Digital pH Meter was easy to use, and calibrating was no hassle either. I like that it already comes with a free battery set, so I don’t have to make extra trips to the store to buy the right batteries. That means that the unit is ready to use right out of the box, which is a bonus for me. Other freebies that come with the purchase include packets of PH buffer solution powder (6 packets in total), when one-time calibration is needed in the future. In fact, there is no need to re-calibrate the unit all the time — especially if you don’t use it very often. You can always purchase calibration packets later when necessary.
To use the Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter, just take out the cap that covers the tip, then dip it into the water that you’d like tested. You might have to swirl a bit, ensuring you’ve “soaked” the tip at just the appropriate amount of time. It has an LCD window on the front for quick readouts, and they are big enough to see; the display window has a green backlight, which even helps with viewing the reading better. The meter has an accuracy of about +/- 0.05 according to the specifications list on the package. Given that info, the HealthyWiser pH Meter was pretty accurate and closely matched the pH level indicated on our water filtration/ionizer system. For example, where our machine indicated a level of 8.5… the meter would display readings between 8.0 to 8.5 (it fluctuates, but within the range). That is good news.
I don’t know what warranty came with my brother’s more expensive meter, but this Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter comes with at least a 1 year warranty for manufacturing defects. I recommend saving a copy of your sales receipt, if you need to claim warranty in the future. They will send you a free replacement, and you don’t even have to send back the defective one (at least according to the information that I was able to gather).
By the way, this Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter is not only for those who own water filter systems. If you are an avid gardener, a cook or a nutritionist, a pool cleaner, or an aquarium owner, sometimes a pH meter is very useful to make sure you are in recommended pH levels for your needs.
Here are some helpful tips I received from their customer support:
- Always put the protective cap back on the HealthyWiser Digital pH meter after every use to keep the electrode from being exposed to air which leads to slow and/or unstable readings.
- If electrode has dried out, immerse in distilled water for 2 – 3 hours.
- The HealthyWiser Digital pH meter does need to be re-calibrated all the time or else it will damage the electrode chip board sensors which may cause inaccurate readings.
- Please take note that the HealthyWiser pH meter electrode has sensor filaments that are quite fragile to be sure to store it in a safe place, away from children, to prevent breakage.
- Ideally if you use it often like every week or more than a couple a times a month, then you just need to calibrate it on a quarterly basis. However if you use it on occasions or you don’t often use it, then you only need to calibrate it once or twice a year. You only need to calibrate it under the following conditions:
– frequent usage
– if you need high testing accuracy readings (laboratory testing)
– if you had pushed the CAL button and the electrode has been exposed to air for a long period of time.
As I’ve mentioned earlier, the Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter is suffice for my basic water testing needs at this time, especially since I am on a budget. If you want to buy your own, the Healthy Wiser Digital pH Meter is currently being sold on Amazon.com at a 53% discount at the time of this writing.
