This telescope-looking thing cannot let you see the moon up close… but it can tell you the time and date! It’s a projection clock from DreamSky and my kids love it! It makes their room more interesting, to say the least.
What I also like about it is that it’s a 2-in-1 deal because I can also use it as a night light for them. The LED-powered light can be adjusted for brightness: high, medium, and low according to the product description. However, there are no set points when I tested the unit — so the adjustment is more like a dimmer. Just turn the black knob to adjust the brightness of the projected light to your preference. The least setting actually turned the light off completely.
The unit is also adjustable as far as the direction of the projected image — up and down at a 120 degree allowance — so you can setup as preferred. I give my kids the choice of the wall or ceiling. It works either way.
FAN TO PREVENT OVERHEATING
One of the things that concern me about projection devices is that the bulb can get hot during usage and can be a fire hazard. However, in this device, I see that it has a built-in fan. In fact, I heard the fan turn on right away when testing the clock. You can see the vents on the back of the device as shown on the photo below where warm air from the unit is blown out to keep the inside cool. Still, as an extra precaution, I’d suggesting turning off the clock or dimming the light all the way low during the day or when no one is home.
It is DC-powered, and the power adapter comes along with it. What is good about this DreamSky Projection Clock is that it also features a backup battery, according to the sales description — which is useful just in case the power goes out. I was not able to test the reliability of that feature, but nonetheless is a great feature to have if that’s the case.
Above is a photo I took from the ceiling, with all lights turned off. By the way, the buttons to set the clock (time, date) are found on the bottom of the unit. You can see it at the base when you flip over.
Wondering where you can get your own? The DreamSky Projection Clock is currently available on Amazon.com at a 17 percent discount, at the time of this writing.
Goodmorning,
Is it possible to shine from inside to outside (through a window/glass)?
Thanks and best regards,
Raoul
I haven’t tried that, but if you have a single pane window, it might work though I’m not sure (double pane could cause distortions)
