After waiting about 3 years to save up for it, we have finally installed hardwood floors in select sections of our home last 2015. With adults like us with our household tasks and having 3 active children at home with their various types of toys that they play with and drag along on the floor, you can say that scratches are going to be expected. I understand that scratches are an inevitable part of having wood floors, but keeping the WearMax® Scratch Concealer in stock as part of our household supplies gives me that quick access when repair is needed.
I must say that the seller took strides to ensure protection of the item during shipment, to which I give the seller a thumbs up! The package even included a sample of hardwood tile that is heavily scratched for testing purposes. I am glad that it did, because I prefer to use that first before applying anything new on our precious floors. My wife would probably throw a fit if I caused more damage!
The package contains instructional material, which is shown in the photo below. Instructions are also printed on the product label itself. They’re quiet easy to follow, as you can see…
The above steps are what I followed for the sample block of wood floor. I was actually surprised at the results. It performed surprisingly better than what I thought. I was skeptical, of course, but let me show you these photos so you can see what I mean from the test hardwood board that was available. I applied the WearMax Scratch Concealer unto the middle scratch.
As you can see, the white scratches are less visible on the area where this was applied, whereas you can really see the white scratch on the other areas where nothing was done. You can still see the scratch on closer inspection (like being on your knees and looking closely), but the WearMax Scratch Concealer allowed the finished area to blend in better with the surrounding floor, disguising the previous scratch! When you are standing, the initial damage is hard to tell. Look below…That’s a good result!
Just note that it doesn’t get rid of the scratch, so keep that in mind. The scratch will still be there, as you can see in a closeup photo below. However, the scratch is less noticeable as the WearMax Scratch Concealer filled in the gaps, sealed the area, and made the damage less obvious by getting rid of the white.
The question is, will it work on our floors? I found an area with visible scratches caused by the feet of a dining chair that lost its padded bottom. I followed the instructions, applying the solution using a circular motion with a cloth. However, the results were not as effective as in the previous test above.
Because of that, I tried this time to apply the solution directly and allowing the concealer to soak in longer before wiping the excess off. I figured, I needed the wood to absorb more.
It helped some…but the white is still more obvious than my previous testing, as you can see.
From this, I can only gather that the WearMax Scratch Concealer probably works better on lightly-colored hardwood tiles — at least, based on my personal tests; yours could vary. Our hardwood floor is made of dark acacia and the results were definitely better on the lightly-colored sample of wood. My best recommendation is that for darker-colored wooden floor like ours, use a color marker first (you can find them at your local stores) that matches the color of your floor the best, before applying the WearMax concealer to seal and blend it better.
The WearMax Scratch Concealer comes as a bottle of 2 oz of liquid, which should be sufficient for our specific needs at home. Though the last test was not as effective as the prior one, I think the WearMax Scratch Concealer has potential. Besides, I have plans to use this on a wooden door with a lighter color. For dark floors, the WearMax Scratch Concealer can certainly be used as a supplement to marker solutions that are available out there.
If your hardwood flooring could use a little help (or a lot of help, for that matter), give the WearMax Scratch Concealer a try. I don’t know what kind of hardwood floor you have chosen for your home, but the satisfaction guarantee included with the purchase is reassuring if you don’t know if this will be effective on your floor or not. You can find out more and purchase this product on the WearMax website.
P.S. It is also available on Amazon.com if you prefer to shop there.
