Have you ever been annoyed by those weeds or grass that happen to find their way in between the crevices or dividers in your driveway? Well our neighborhood is strict about those pesky little things, and having this Toil in the Soil Paving Hand Weeder available for my use is handy if I don’t want to be bothered by those annoying POA/HOA letters.
The item arrived sealed in plastic, in addition to its shipment packaging, so I’m happy as far as the packaging and shipment process is concerned. The Toil in the Soil Paving Hand Weeder looks like a mini ax tool except that the blades are located in multiple areas for those weed-removal tasks. It’s in the shape of a bent “L” (I say “bent”, because it’s not an exact L with 90-degree angles where the straight lines on the L connect; you’ll see what I mean by looking at the photos).
The blade is made of stainless steel, so I’m hoping it will last me for years without rust or corrosion from heavy use. I like the ash handle with its natural wood color; the handle is NOT made of plastic, so that’s a relief. The handle appears to be well-secured with the blade, and I hope it can hang on for dear life as it gets used consistently. The last thing I want is a blade that separates from a handle with continued use (I’ve had those kinds of tools before). At least the one-year guarantee is reassuring.
The blade is “skinny” enough to fit on those crevices in the driveway. For extra power on larger weeds with extensive roots, you can use the L-shaped blade as a hook to pull them out.
Because the blades are in multiple areas, you can also flip it the other way around to do the work. You can also push away from, or pull towards, you to get the weeds out…
By the way, the tool is not necessarily limited to driveways. You can use this tool for your regular gardening projects.
It’s only about a foot long (rough estimate), so it’s not cumbersome to carry for those de-weeding projects. I like that it’s got a leather loop at the edge of the handle for hanging the tool when the project is done. It gives it a vintage look, so it’s functional both ways. My girls like to help me in my home projects, so I put this leather loop around their wrists (they still have small wrists, so their hands can go through) as a safety precaution while working. I don’t want this thing flying off their hands.
If you don’t want to use this in the garden, it makes a good decorative piece with its shiny blade, natural wood handle, and leather loop. (=
