I love CREE LED lights. They are bright and powerful — unlike the weak yellow lights of traditional flashlights. The MH20 LED Headlamp Flashlight is no exception. It puts out 200 lumens of light in the white spectrum, which is pretty powerful for a headlamp.
When you first get it, you’d probably think nothing of it at first. I know I did. It comes in a small box packaging that is only about 3 x 4 x 2.5 inches in size (very loose estimate). The point is, the box is small, but the product within can do big things.
To give you an idea of how powerful this headlamp is, here’s the light focused in some area of our backyard in the darkness of the night. It’s bright and powerful for sure!
The OxyLED MH20 LED Headlamp Flashlight is powered by 3 AAA batteries. Unfortunately, they are not included in the purchase, so make sure you have these type of batteries in stock at home. I have a lot, so that was not an issue with me. The battery compartment is located on the part that goes behind your head (when wearing the headlamp). Behind it is a soft, ‘foamy’ (for lack of a better word) cover with a notch on one end (see below).
Pull that out to release the cover and you’ll see the battery compartment. Once the batteries are placed, you are ready for action!
You will notice 2 orange buttons (see below). Normally, a headlamp will only come with 1 button. But this unit comes with a surprise feature. Let me explain…
One aspect that makes this different from other headlamps that I’ve seen and have had in the past is that it’s got a motion sensor. The OxyLED MH20 is the only one I have come across to date in my visits to local home goods store that has a motion sensor built in. You will find 2 sensors on the headlamp (see photo below). I don’t know the specific mechanism of this… but I do know that one sensor turns off the device and one turns on the device (provided that the main power button has already been turned on — that is, one of the orange buttons). Now isn’t that neat?!
That’s a very convenient feature, if you ask me. To turn on the flashlight, all I did was wave my hand in front of the headlamp in one direction and it turned ON. I waved it back towards the opposite direction, and it turned OFF. What a surprise! I don’t know about your own experience, but with my other headlamps, I’ve had to grope and feel for the button while I’m wearing the lamp and make sure I slide buttons in the right direction to turn the lights on. It can be a hassle. Not with this one!
The MH20 LED Headlamp Flashlight can be used for various purposes. I use the headlamp when I’m making home or car repairs and need a direct light on the spot that I’m working on. The headlamp is particularly useful when you need both hands to be free to work on things. It’s hard to work when one hand needs to hold a flashlight. If you are going on a hiking adventure or any outdoor activity where you anticipate to be in darkness, this is good to bring too.
The MH20 LED Headlamp Flashlight is being sold at Amazon at a 72 percent discount at the time of this writing.
