I have not heard of JHS brand before, so you can imagine my hesitancy in having a JHS portable ac unit rather than buying a current known brand in the US. However, I am glad I took the plunge because this unit has been awesome so far! If you are looking for a smaller AC unit in the 5,000 – 10,000 BTU range, the JHS A019-8KR/A 8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is definitely worth considering.
To be honest with you, this has been packaged in the best possible way than most common brands I have received in the past, ensuring that you will receive a working unit right out of the box upon arrival. I was very satisfied with the retail packaging because I sure was worried about damage during transit.
After I saw how well the retail box has been designed to protect the unit inside, I realized this AC unit must be really good for the factory to take that extra precaution. I was not wrong!
I was able to use the JHS portable AC right out of the box, with minimal assembly (if I can even call it that). In fact, for effective cooling, the only thing you really need to do is secure the window exhaust attachments, which is not very difficult to do with this unit. It’s really built to make it easy to use, without having to require an AC technician if you are already a do-it-yourself kind of guy. Everything already fits like a puzzle, you just need to connect it together. I was able to do it without reading the manual, but a manual is included for those who might need the extra guidance.
The exhaust tube is expandable. However, I recommend that you place the unit close to the window to begin with, unless the logistics in your current setting does not allow so. It extends to at least 1500mm (almost 5 ft) according to the manual, but I haven’t fully extended it to determine if this is accurate.
The exhaust vent is in the back of the unit, on the mid section. Just slide in and clip on the parts as shown and it will snap in place.
Do you need to put the vent tube in place? To be more effective, yes, I would suggest you do so. While the JHS Portable Air Conditioner is running, heat is being exhausted from the back and cool air is being blown to the front. For initial cooling, yes, the room will definitely get cold. But eventually, you’re making the unit work pointlessly if you don’t exhaust this heat to the outside because they’ll be working against each other. So in short, make sure this heat is exhausted out if you have the JHS A019-8KR/A 8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner for cooling purposes.
Does it get really cold? Yes it does! During my bench tests, the cooling system worked very well. In fact, when I set the cooling temperature to 72 degrees, I get a cold air blasting out immediately. The initial blasts were consistently in the 60’s, as you can see in the photos below. At one point, I had an initial blast of high 50’s range to get the room to the desired setting as fast as possible!
What I love about the JHS A019-8KR/A 8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is that it is a multi-purpose unit. You can use it as a fan, as an air conditioner cooling system, and as a dehumidifier. You can easily change from one setting to another with just the push of a button on the face of the unit, or on the included remote control which is a convenient bonus in itself!
The timer is also a convenient feature, and allows up to 24-hours setting. The LED screen is very useful, because it tells you exactly what you are pressing.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the JHS A019-8KR/A 8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner. In fact, I prefer it now over the 5,000 BTU window AC units, which I have used in the past. Eventually, my plan is to use this on a homemade camper trailer project that I’m gonna be working on this year. It will be a much better option, as far as installation and function is concerned.
