This thing is so unique that I don’t even know what to call it! Is it a mug? A cup? A horn mug? A horn cup? Well, I’m referring to the AleHorn Game of Thrones Style Drinking Horn that is shown below:
These horn cups are hand made, so you might not get the same exact pattern as the one I received. My particular one is a little less than 6 inches tall (if you count the top of the curve of the handle)…
… and about 4.5 inches in total width (again, counting the edge of the handle), with a little over 3 inches of that as the diameter of the container.
It claims to be made of 100% natural horn, which is neat! (I’m not sure how they obtained the cow horns, but they promise to have done it ethically.) The patterns on the AleHorn cup does show that part of the composite may have come from a real horn, and can be a conversation starter when you are entertaining guests over at your home. I haven’t once in my life drank out of a real cow horn, so this is quite an interesting piece to have! If that’s the case, then I suggest not putting this in the microwave or dishwasher, or avoid any extremely-hot liquids altogether to prevent any damage. From the sales material, it is actually suggested that the cup be used for cool drinks only (not hot) — which works for me because I prefer to have cold drinks any time. In the rare occasion that I drink coffee, I still prefer iced, so I can use this cup for sure without taking issues with it for its limitations.
If you don’t want to use this as an actual drinking cup, the AleHorn still makes for a good decorative piece for the home — whether you are a fan of Game of Thrones or not. It’s unique and beautiful on its own. We have a library of vintage collections, and this can still blend in well with our display. In fact, I’m planning to wrap this up and add it to one of my wife’s Christmas surprises!
