My wife is currently watching her eating habits and have been doing good at it, I must say. (That is, of course, except for those occasional days when I beg her to go out on a date with me when I’ve craving for real, unhealthy food! LOL). She’s lost more than 5 pounds, so I’m proud of her. Part of her regimen includes snacking on healthy foods (ie blueberries, organic nuts, etc), which requires putting them in small containers. Previously, she was using small tupperwares, but the addition of these Prefer Green Portion Control Containers provided a better storage alternative.
The Prefer Green Portion Control package provides a kit of 7 storage containers in total, with varying sizes. One of the good things about this kit is that it was really intended for those healthy eating plans and comes with an instruction guide to plan your healthy food throughout the day.
You can use the eating plan guide that is provided with the package, or you can continue the plan that you are currently following. My wife has an existing plan in place, so the included guide is more of a supplement to what she is currently working on.
The Prefer Green storage containers were advertised as leak-prook. To test this, I added water to one of the containers and flipped it outside down. The cover surprisingly held up without any water seeping, so that’s another good news! However, when I was holding it on its side, that’s when water started leaking through… so keep that in mind — it’s when it’s completely upside down that water did not leak out, and it was when it was on its side that leakage occurred. I attribute the leak in the sideways position to the groove on one end of the container, as you can see in the photo below (it’s more visible on the purple one). The groove is useful though, because it allows space to put a finger there so that you can pull the cover out.
I don’t know how many uses it can handle before the tight seal of the cover starts loosening up (especially with regular use in the microwave or a hot dishwasher setting), but I guess only time will tell…
The propylene containers are color coded, allowing for better organization of her meal plan. According to the sales material, these containers are also free from BPA and DEHP, which is reassuring to know (you can read more about the dangers here and here).
I like how easy it is to store them away in the kitchen cabinet when not in use. Because they are made of varying sizes from smallest to largest, each one can be put inside a bigger container and so on. That means the whole kit won’t take much space, so that’s neat for sure. Overall, the containers will stack into 2 large containers.
If you want to start planning out your meal during the day using a healthy portion control eating plan, consider using the Prefer Green 7-piece Portion Control Containers. They are currently being sold on Amazon at a 58 percent discount at the time of this writing.
