I received my package of the Tiger Straps Utility Trailer Ratchet Tie Down Straps just in time for a camping trip last weekend! Yes, I know… it’s crazy, but we organized winter camping for our local youth group at 30-degree nighttime temperatures in northeast Texas. We survived, that’s for sure!
The Tiger Straps Utility Trailer Ratchet Tie Down Straps came in handy because at the last minute I decided to bring my 4×8 trailer along for the trip. Using our 4×8 trailer made packing a little easier than loading unto the back of our SUV — especially since we were in charge of at least 95% of our camping supplies and food. It was an open trailer though, so I had to cover everything with a tarp, and secure the tarp in place using at least 3 of the Tiger Straps Ratchet Tie-Downs. The straps are about 20-feet long, which is plenty of length… and I actually had a good bit of leftover length after securing the trailer. The straps are about 1-inch in width, if you want to know that.
Let me tell you that the Tiger Straps Ratchet Tie-Downs are pretty strong. I didn’t realize that the tarp that I used was so old and weakened by time, so it started ripping apart in some sections and flapping around in the trailer. Good thing I saw all that mess through my rear view mirror. I was worried that the tarp might come loose and fly away, possibly causing an accident, so I stopped on the side of the road. To my relief, the only thing that held the tarp in place and prevented it from flying off was these straps. The Tiger Straps Ratchet Tie-Downs stayed in place despite the force of our speed on the interstate and the winds against the tarp. One strap did loosen up a little, but I was able to tighten in no time and didn’t have any further problems thereafter. This was a 4-hour drive each way, so it took quite a beating.
Just note that there is some assembly required — you will have to secure the straps unto each of the ratchet heads (they are packaged separately, and for good reason). While it probably should be easy to do, it was my first time ever using ratchet tie-downs so I had a little bit of challenge putting it together because of the lack of familiarity. There were instructions in the back of the packaging, as well as a photo illustration. I rely on photos more often, but the photo illustrations were on the smaller side plus it was in black and white so it was hard to tell if you’re not familiar with tie-down ratchets already. I did manage after several tries and errors, and I eventually figured it out. I wish those photos were bigger and in full color, as that would have been really helpful for someone like me who relies on pictures for directions.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the straps and I won’t have a problem recommending them. I’ll have many uses for them, since I usually pick up and transport items on my utility trailer for my wife. Just remember not to go more than the allotted load limits (they are posted on the package label), if you don’t want any accidents or trouble.
